Two events signal the end of another busy year

It is hard to believe another year is quickly coming to an end, with thoughts of snow and cold a persistent reminder of what (likely) is to come. It seems like just yesterday we were complaining about the long, hot summer and how it was keeping rounds of golf played at local courses down and diners away from bistro patios.

But that’s the great thing about Michigan weather. As the saying goes, if you don’t like it, wait a day. It will change. That certainly has been the case this week, where we have seen temperatures near 80 degrees one day and near-winter conditions just two days later. Talk about the risk of wardrobe malfunction.

Fortunately, the weather last weekend was picture perfect for the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber’s annual Halloween Parade, our last weather-dependent event of the year. Partnering with the Junior League of Birmingham’s Pumpkin Patch, the family-fun day brought thousands of folks to downtown Birmingham for fun and games, and a chance to march the streets of downtown in full costume.

Fortunately, the Chamber’s final two, big events of the year will not only be held indoors, but in two of the finest private facilities to be found anywhere. Both of the venues – the Birmingham Athletic Club and Oakland Hills Country Club – are loyal Chamber members and we are grateful they are happy and proud to open their doors to the rest of our members and guests.

2011 Business Person of the Year Award
Richard Astrein

The BAC is first up when it hosts the BBC’s 65th annual meeting from 8-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6. We’ll report on the successes of the year to our membership, thank our outgoing Directors for their service and support of the business community, and introduce our new slate of officers and Directors.
In addition, we will honor the BBC’s Business Person of the Year and shine a deserving light on an individual or team that goes above and beyond to support the greater community while operating a successful business. There is still time to nominate a deserving individual. Details and nominating forms can be found on the Chamber Web site at www.bbcc.com

The Chamber will close the book on 2012 at Oakland Hills on Wednesday, Dec. 12 with our 65th holiday mixer.  Members and guests will be treated to eye-popping holiday decorations and displays as well as sumptuous food and beverages while giving thanks to the many blessings we all have received over the course of the year, celebrate achievements and welcome 2013 with a renewed sense of purpose. The fun is scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. and promises good times, good networking and no speeches.  Details can be found at www.bbcc.com and we look forward to having the opportunity to say thank you to our many loyal members and friends.

Joe Bauman is President of the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber. He welcomes feedback at joeb@bbcc.com
